Practice

Three disciplines, one craft.

I run a senior research advisory practice that operates at the intersection of academic rigor and industry product practice — Full Professor at Gannon University, three years in-house at AWS Fintech R&D, an active research lab, and a working consultancy under Neat Circle LLC. The disciplines below are different on the surface. The underlying skill — designing systems people actually adopt — is the same.

Currently in selective intake for Q3–Q4 2026 advisory engagements.

01 — Human Factors

Medical Device Usability & Human Factors Consulting

Two decades of peer-reviewed research on clinical workflow systems, surgical ergonomics, motion-based assessment of clinical training, and medical device usability — h-index 8, 332 academic citations, ongoing research collaborations with Allegheny Health Network, St. Vincent's, and LECOM. The work meets the methodological standards FDA reviewers and IEC auditors expect.

Most useful when: a medical device program needs IEC 62366 / FDA HFE submission support; a clinical software vendor needs usability evaluation and design control documentation; or a hospital-system rollout needs human factors review prior to deployment. Engagements are scoped narrowly and delivered as document deliverables a regulatory team can submit directly.

  • IEC 62366 Use-Error Analyses
  • FDA HFE / UE Submission Support
  • Summative Usability Evaluations
  • Formative Usability Studies
  • Surgical Ergonomics Studies
  • Clinical Workflow Analysis
02 — Research

Enterprise UX Research

Mixed-methods user research for B2B, fintech, healthcare technology, and frontier AI products. I built and operated a research function inside AWS Fintech R&D supporting more than twenty product teams, with research operations scaled to forty-eight thousand panelists. That work is the template I bring to client engagements.

Most useful when: your organization is building a research function from scratch, scaling an existing one, or running into ResearchOps bottlenecks. Also a fit for one-off discovery, journey mapping, workflow telemetry, or evaluative research projects on enterprise software, healthcare workflow systems, or agentic AI products — particularly in regulated domains where compliance shapes research design.

  • ResearchOps Build & Operations
  • Mixed-Methods Studies (JTBD, journey mapping, contextual inquiry)
  • Healthcare Workflow Research (EHR, CDS, clinician burnout)
  • AI Product UX Research (LLM evaluation, agent UX, trust calibration)
  • Workflow Telemetry & Behavioral Research
  • Regulated-Industry Research Programs (HIPAA, PCI-DSS, FDA HFE)
03 — Adoption

SAP S/4HANA Adoption & Process Consulting

The technical literature on S/4HANA migration is thorough. The adoption literature is almost nonexistent. I work with organizations on the human side of ECC-to-S/4HANA conversions — discovery, fit-gap analysis, RICEFW governance from an adoption lens, stakeholder workshops, and change enablement that survives go-live and Hypercare.

Most useful when: your organization is in the planning, blueprint, or hypercare phase of a S/4HANA migration; or when a technically successful implementation is meeting unexpected adoption resistance. Particularly suited to mid-market financial services, manufacturing, and healthcare organizations facing the 2027 ECC end-of-mainstream deadline.

  • As-Is / To-Be Process Mapping
  • Fit-to-Standard & Fit-Gap Analysis
  • Adoption Risk Assessment
  • RICEFW Governance from an Adoption Lens
  • Change Enablement Strategy
  • Hypercare Research Support
04 — Advisory

Speaking, Advisory, and Applied Research

Limited availability for keynote talks, executive workshops, advisory board seats, and applied research engagements in the human factors and enterprise software adoption domains. Past venues include the Amazon Fintech Design Studio and academic research symposia. Published author with a strong publication record on motion analysis, surgical performance, and clinical workflow systems.

  • Keynote Talks
  • Executive Workshops
  • Advisory Board Seats
  • Fractional Research Leadership
§ How engagements work

Three ways to work together.

I structure most engagements around one of three formats, depending on the depth of the problem and your team's capacity.

Not sure which format fits your situation? Reach out and we'll figure it out together.
